Welcome

This blog consists of lesson plans I have put together while being called as the Youth Sunday School Teacher and a Primary Teacher. Feel free to take any ideas you find.

If you are looking for another resource, http://sugardoodle.net/ is a great website with many great ideas for lesson planning.

February: How can I use Church music to learn about the plan of salvation?

Music can teach us about the Gospel
Helpers: Ask for a piano player and for people to grab hymn books.
Introduction
  • A few weeks ago, we found scriptures that described our Heavenly Father. Abby chose D&C 25:12. (Have her re-read it) He loves music and he uses music to teach us.
  • Quote 1. How many of us actually listen to the lyrics we sing during sacrament?
Favorite Hymn Activity (15 min)
  • Pick one of your favorite hymns, come up and share why, and pick a verse for us to sing. (Ask Laurel to play the piano)
Oh My Father (20 min)
  • After reading/listening to the lyrics to the hymn, “O My Father”, write what it teaches about these three phases of the plan of salvation and write what they find under the appropriate headings.
    • Pre-mortal life
    • Mortal life
    • Life After Death

Quote 1: "The first Presidency taught, "Some of the greatest sermons are preached by the singing of hymns. Hymns move us to repentance and good works, build testimony and faith, comfort the weary, console the mourning, and inspire us to endure to the end." Most principles of the gospel, including those related to the plan of salvation, are taught powerfully through hymns and other church music.
